ETBU/MARSHALL TOURNAMENT 8-19-16 & 8-20-16

DAY ONE
Gilmer started off the match slow against Rusk trying to play catch up throughout the entire first set, losing 16-25. The Lady Buckeyes got refocused and end up winning the entire match, with the scores of 25-21 and 25-17, respectively. Belynda Ray had a great match with 10 kills. 

Gilmer went on to play John Tyler and Nacogdoches earning wins in both of those matches. The scores against John Tyler were 25-11 and 25-19. The scores for Nacogdoches were 25-12 and 25-10. Belynda Ray stood out for the Lady Buckeyes against John Tyler with 7 kills and 2 blocks; while Destiny Brooks performed well against Nacogdoches with 7 kills and 4 aces. The Lady Buckeyes finished 1st in their division sending them to the championship bracket.

DAY TWO

The Lady Buckeyes started off the championship bracket against Arp with a 25-10 first set win. However, the Lady Buckeyes let their guard down for a bit and Arp won the 2nd set 20-25. After some prodding, the Lady Buckeyes took care of business and shut Arp down with a 25-15 3rd set win. 

The Lady Buckeyes faced the Tatum Eagles in the semi-finals of the tournament. The Lady Eagles of Tatum were a solid team and challenged us every step of the way. Gilmer was able to pull off the match in 3 sets with the scores of 25-18, 19-25, 25-18. Destiny Brooks led the way in that match with 10 kills and 8 digs. 

For the championship match, Gilmer was set to face Carthage. The Carthage Lady Bulldogs have a strong team with a very dominant presence at the net. Gilmer struggled in the first set, losing 14-25. While the score did not reflect it, our team did some great things. We were able to refocus and end up taking Carthage down in the 2nd set 25-23. Gilmer fought hard but fell short against Carthage and received 2nd place overall in the tournament losing 20-25. Alex Koudelka had a breakout game finishing with 10 kills and 3 blocks.
